THE POWER OF THE CRYSTAL; SYNTHETIC PHOTOSYNTHESIS
Metal organic frameworks (MOFs) technology at the nano level can be designed to trigger synthetic photosynthesis. This process can turn carbon dioxide into clean air and produce renewable energy as its waste. So far it has only been tested in laboratories. My proposal is to create free standing photo reactors with the use of swarovski crystals. This design will allow the reduction of CO2 from the atmosphere without using any source of power, resulting in a clean alternative energy production system.
DENIM; SWATCH COLLECTION
this collection explores the different possibilities of reconstructing sturdy textiles out of scraps, threads and any waste from different denim fabrics through sewing. The graphic element of the line is present through out this collection and texture is a big component.
DRY SHIBORI; SWATCH COLLECTION
This collection replicates some shibori techniques and visuals using little to none water. The designs are produced by digitally collaging scans of ink on paper hand drawings. These are then translated into a laser machine that burns away the dye from the fabric. This process reduces labor intense practices and saes great amounts of water and resources that go into similar finishing techniques.
Handmade bags using mainly repurposed denim and canvas from unwanted clothes and scraps of unused yardage. It's goal is to reduce the surplus of litter ending in landfills by giving these unwanted textiles another life. The simplicity and timelessness of its designs allow them to be used by anyone who wants to promote an eco friendly lifestyle.
This body of work hopes to bring attention to the devastating consequences that human plastic consumption is taking on our oceans ecosystem. An installation proposal where single-use plastic bags have been cut, sewn and hanged to recreate a kelp forest. An immersive experience in which the lightness and movement of the environment invites the viewer to walk around and between the suspended pieces.
"Everyday there's numerous releases happening throughout just the U.S. Sometimes every couple of hours there's a new incident" -Mike Sawyer, oil and gas safety expert. Oil spills are more frequent than what we are aware of. These atrocities end with dead wildlife, destroyed lands, illness, injuries and people having to be relocated. I use fashion as a tool to bring attention to this issue. The cast of colors, shine and the way light goes through and changes as you view it resembles the liquid rainbows created by oil spills.
NO PLANET B
Plastic pollution is a major global phenomenon that requires a comprehensive solution. At this point, the only way to try to reverse this from ending in a catastrophe is by changing consumer's behavior. Most people aren't aware of how important each individual's plastic footprint is fpr the colelctive future of our planet. This collection of stickers was created to raise awareness of the issue.
